Before We All Forget

If you haven’t yet heard

There’s a new spoken word

Whispered here to the hills

As the breathing grows still

People waiting and praying

And displaying broken hands

Hearing token plans

Pleading with the man

To treat them with respect

Before we all forget

And move on to the next big thing.

And this is why the caged bird sings:

This land gave a promise

That the great and the common

Can be treated the same

In this God-forsaken game

So fight for their lives

Now is the time

Or they’ll come for you next

After we all forget
